Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a 2-year Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma from a recognized Ontario Community College
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years of classroom experience, excluding student field placements, with toddler/preschool-aged children, including children with special needs
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work in an early childhood education environment, involving activities with young children
- The candidates should be able to exhibit the capability of sitting, standing, and moving around to engage with children
- The candidates should be able to feel comfortable lifting and carrying materials relevant to early childhood activities
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be registered in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- The candidates should possess a current Police Vulnerable Sector Screen (criminal reference check) As per the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act, and verification of medical suitability and immunization record
- The candidates should be currently certified in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR (C)
- The candidates should have knowledge of Ontario’s Ministry of Education’s pedagogy for early learning
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to design and implement daily activities based on observation and assessment of individual and group needs and interests
- The candidates should be able to guide children in all areas of development in accordance with the program philosophy/curriculum
- The candidates should be able to ensure the overall health and safety of children enrolled in the program
- The candidates should be able to implement and design individual learning plans for children (including children with special needs) during program time as required
- The candidates should be able to maintain ongoing communications with families, Sheridan faculty and staff, and the community with respect to the program
- The candidates should be able to provide ongoing supervision of the classroom, playground, group, and routine activities
- The candidates should be able to direct, support, observe, and evaluate Early Childhood Education student-teacher learning
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate a professional approach and establish team cohesion to ensure program compatibility
- The candidates should be able to implement and design individual learning plans for children within an inclusive environment during program time as required
- The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
