Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post secondary education in Forestry
Experience: Candidates should have experience preparing annual reports, operating plans, and forest management plans

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work independently with strong organizational skills to prioritize workloads and meet strict deadlines
  • The candidates should be willing and able to work overtime when required and work out-of-town for extended periods of up to ten days with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels, and tents
  • The candidates should be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via truck, all-terrain vehicle, boat, or rotary or fixed-wing aircraft
  • The candidates must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort (carrying equipment such as chainsaws and forestry samples for long distances potentially over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess an equivalent combination of resource-related education, training, and experience in field forestry operations, which may be considered
  • The candidates should have experience planning, performing, supervising, and inspecting silvicultural activities and timber harvest operations
  • The candidates should have experience in human resource management, including supervision, performance management, and training
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups and in a team environment
  • The candidates should demonstrate problem-solving and analytical skills and possess strong verbal communication skills
  • The candidates should have experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including ArcGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) with strong mapping skills
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of forestry legislation and policy and possess strong written communication skills
  • The candidates should have experience preparing and managing budgets and experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent from another province

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to support the Regional Forester in the development, implementation, and evaluation of forest management plans
  • The candidates should be able to assist in resource allocations and forest renewal activities within the Eastern Region
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to the creation and assessment of Forest Management and Operations Plans
  • The candidates should be able to handle work program administration and supervision efficiently within the Eastern Region
  • The candidates should be able to actively participate and cooperate with other Eastern Region Department and Branch staff and programs
