Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a department-recognized two-year Forestry or related Natural Resources Technical Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have experience using GPS systems and ArcView software and be computer literate

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to operate department vehicles, including off-road vehicles, boats, and equipment
  • The candidate should be capable of working in remote areas and traveling long distances on foot over rough terrain

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have proven knowledge and experience with processes, policies, procedures, and regulations related to Wildlife Management, the Wood Acquisition Program (WAP), WHWP Regulations, and Crown Road and Extension Methods
  • The candidate should be knowledgeable in forest resource management principles and practices, forest fire prevention and suppression, public education activities, and occupational health and safety regulations
  • The candidate should demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and sound judgment
  • The candidate should provide exceptional client service and respond appropriately to crisis situations
  • The candidate should possess a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) and have access to a motor vehicle

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to manage Crown and private land in accordance with relevant regulations and environmental best practices
  • The candidate should be able to monitor forestry operations to ensure compliance with Forest Sustainability Regulations
  • The candidate should be able to participate in forest fire prevention and suppression activities
  • The candidate should be able to conduct wildlife studies, biological surveys, and monitor forest health for insect and disease presence
  • The candidate should be able to support parks operations, including maintenance of properties, facilities, and vehicles
  • The candidate should be able to assist with land administration tasks such as permits, leases, and land-use planning
