Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English or French Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience, training will be provided
Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots
Security and safety: Criminal record check

  • The candidates should be able to work with attention to detail and distinguish between colours and sound discrimination
  • The candidates should be able to sit, stand, walk for extended periods
  • The candidates should be able to work in noisy area and in outdoors

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to check train systems and equipment prior to train run, receive train orders and explain orders to brakemen/women, locomotive engineer and other crew members
  • The candidates should be able to communicate with train crew members to aid in the movement and operation of train
  • The candidates should be able to receive orders from traffic controllers, observe signals and track conditions and open and close track switches
  • The candidates should be able to communicate with train crew members to give and receive train operation information
  • The candidates should be able to prepare train run reports, set and release hand brakes and connect air brake hoses to couple and switch passenger or freight cars, making minor repairs to couplings, air hoses and wheel-bearing boxes as required
