Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have MSc in geology with substantial experience in mineral exploration, or with demonstrated knowledge of mineral deposits/mineral systems
Experience: Candidates should have experience managing or leading components of mineral exploration projects

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should undergo a pre-employment medical assessment
  • The candidates should be willing to travel extensively, within and outside of the Yukon, as it is a requirement of the position

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of the application of mineral exploration techniques for different deposit types
  • The candidates should have experience with managing large spatial datasets and using mapping (GIS) software and have experience with technical writing and public speaking
  • The candidates should have experience managing personnel and budgets and possess interpersonal and communication skills and be willing to work collaboratively with staff to advance YGS priorities
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Yukon’s geology and mineral occurrences and have analytical and critical thinking skills
  • The candidates should have an understanding of the role of geological surveys and possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • The candidates should be eligible for membership in one of Geoscientists Canada’s member organizations

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to participate in the design, development, and implementation of government programs and services in support of the mineral industry under the guidance of the Director
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to the development of policies, objectives, strategies, and scientific standards related to the collection, analysis, and reporting of geoscience information
  • The candidates should be able to oversee and coordinate the activities of Minerals Geology staff, ensuring effective tracking and reporting on mineral exploration and mining activities in the territory
  • The candidates should be able to manage the YGS’ drill core program and the Yukon Mineral Exploration Program in collaboration with the branch management team
