Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should be currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program
Experience: Candidates should have Home Care experience
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory and must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrollment from the Directory
- The candidates should be nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum. They will be considered if they are either in their 1st year of a practical nursing program or 2nd year of a baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program. Candidates must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification
- The candidates should preferably have an HCA certificate, but equivalent experience will be considered
- The candidates should possess a driver’s license and vehicle
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work as a team as well as independently in a self-motivated environment that is always changing
- The candidates should be able to adhere to the provided care plan established in collaboration with the client, family, and members of the interdisciplinary team
- The candidates should be able to expand their knowledge as a Health Care Aide (HCA) by participating in education and local home care office initiatives
- The candidates should be able to contribute as part of the interdisciplinary team, demonstrating excellent creativity and resourcefulness with the ability to think on their feet with little direction
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate great time management and organization abilities to balance different priorities at once
- The candidates should be able to provide friendly and sincere emotional support by being a good listener and interacting in a positive and optimistic manner to ensure patient-centered care as an HCA
- The candidates should be able to provide personal assistance, support activities of daily living, and offer comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support
- The candidates should be able to work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community, or health care facilities
- The candidates should be able to play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
