Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Nursing Licensure in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
Experience: Candidates should have extensive nursing experience in a Health Services Field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should undergo a Satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Security Check, Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Internal Security Check (must be valid within 6 months)
  • The candidates should provide a Satisfactory Certificate of Medical Fitness

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • The candidates should possess Nursing Licensure in good standing with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM), or the College of Licenced Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM)
  • The candidates should hold a Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Professional Certification
  • The candidates should have experience with coaching and mentoring staff in a healthcare environment
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of current nursing theory and practice with the ability to provide advice on medical issues and procedures
  • The candidates should exhibit strong interpersonal skills with experience creating and maintaining positive working relationships with staff within the medical unit and with external agencies
  • The candidates should have experience reviewing medical files and determining the proper patient care plan
  • The candidates should have experience working effectively in a team environment, crisis intervention and emergency, Experience in Psychiatric Services and Knowledge of Indigenous culture/traditions
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong written communication skills and possess strong verbal communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for supervising/providing care and treatment of the physically ill and/or mentally ill inmates in a correctional environment
  • The candidates should be able to report to the Health Service Manager and supervise RN, RPN, LPN, and nursing students in the delivery of health care to inmates
  • The candidates should be able to perform nursing duties in accordance with professional nursing qualifications, recognized standards of nursing practice, prescribed regulations, and established policy and procedures
