Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Journeyman HEM

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a minimum Grade 12 education with the ability to understand apprenticeship theory, training, and interpret service and parts manuals
  • The candidates should hold a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) Certification
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 3 Driver’s license with Air brake endorsement to operate equipment for test purposes
  • The candidates should have considerable experience on motor graders, highway trucks, tractors, loaders, and crawler tractors

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain a section of Highway No. 5, secondary roads, and highways in Wood Buffalo National Park and the highway to Fort Fitzgerald in Alberta
  • The candidates should be able to supervise a team consisting of one Maintenance Supervisor, four Highway Equipment Operators, and one Highway Maintenance Worker
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that all heavy and light mobile and fixed equipment used for maintaining the Department’s infrastructure is maintained, repaired, or reconditioned in a timely and efficient manner
  • The candidates should be able to provide mechanical services for planned servicing, repairing, and maintaining all heavy and light equipment utilized by the Department for highway maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to operate equipment for highway maintenance during extreme need or in emergency conditions
