Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Mechanic and/or Red Seal Journeyperson Truck and Coach Mechanic
Experience: Candidates should have experience diagnosing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing mobile and stationary equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have willingness to work in a team environment
  • The candidates should Lift heavy objects, work in adverse weather conditions, and work at heights of 6-10 feet
  • The candidates should guide and work with apprentice mechanics, work outside of headquarters area for extended periods of time and accept standby shift responsibilities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have strong knowledge of preventative maintenance, with skills in repairing, maintaining, and overhauling a large variety of heavy equipment. They should also possess experience diagnosing and troubleshooting electrically controlled diesel engines
  • The candidates should have experience in performing preventative maintenance inspections and repairs and recent experience diagnosing and troubleshooting electrically controlled diesel engines, transmissions, and other components such as Cummins, CAT, and Volvo
  • The candidates should have safety and service orientation are crucial for this role and demonstrate a strong knowledge of preventative maintenance, including regeneration systems and electronic controls for hydraulic systems
  • The candidates should be adaptable to changing priorities and promote respect, dependability, and reliability in their work
  • The candidates should have a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and completion of a Transportation Dangerous Goods Certificate must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • The candidates should have commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • The candidates should have a valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement must be obtained within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain, repair, and overhaul a large volume and variety of light and heavy-duty equipment across the territory
  • The candidates should be able to undertake extensive travel to Highways and Public Works maintenance camps
  • The candidates should be able to assist with heavy equipment repairs, perform emergency repairs, periodic motor vehicle inspections, and/or replace absent heavy equipment mechanics
