Government of Yukon’s Department of Highways and Public Works manages infrastructure and transportation projects within the territory. It oversees road maintenance, construction, and public building management. Through strategic planning and collaboration, it ensures safe and efficient transportation networks and infrastructure. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have experience operating a wide variety of heavy equipment, which must include a dump truck and loader

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared to travel throughout the territory and should be willing to work in adverse weather conditions
  • The candidates should adhere to mandatory use of personal protective equipment and should possess a personal tool kit
  • The candidates should have steel toe work boots and should adhere to the safety program and all applicable policies and procedures

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience with mechanical issues and possess a Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement
  • The candidates should consider a Class 1 driver’s license and should be safety and service oriented
  • The candidates should be dedicated to working in an environment that promotes respect, dependability, and reliability
  • The candidates should demonstrate motivation to learn and have effective oral communication skills
  • The candidates should be self-motivated and adaptable to changing conditions and should be willing to work to contribute to the team environment
  • The candidates should obtain TMB Certification on heavy equipment (loader and dump truck) within 6 months of hire
  • The candidates should obtain a Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to operate various pieces of light and heavy equipment under the supervision of the Road Foreperson
  • The candidates should be able to assist with construction and maintenance activities for highways, recreational roads, airstrips, and other facilities throughout Yukon
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that roads and facilities are maintained to an acceptable standard for safe use by the traveling public
  • The candidates should be able to follow safety protocols and procedures while operating equipment and performing maintenance activities
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively as part of a team to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
