Government of Yukon’s Highways and Public Works department oversees transportation infrastructure and public facilities maintenance. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should  be currently enrolled in a post-secondary program
Experience: Candidates should have experience in operating a wide variety of heavy equipment, which must include a dump truck and loader

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared for travel and working in adverse weather conditions
  • The candidates should be willing to adhere to the mandatory use of personal protective equipment, personal tool kit, and steel toe work boots
  • The candidates should be committed to adhering to the safety program and all applicable policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be willing to work and contribute to the team environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a Yukon unrestricted Class 3 driver’s licence with air endorsement
  • The candidates should have experience operating a wide variety of heavy equipment, which must include a dump truck and loader
  • The candidates should aim to obtain TMB Certification on heavy equipment (loader and dump truck) within 6 months of hire
  • The candidates should strive to obtain a Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate within 6 months of hire
  • The candidates should obtain a WHMIS certificate within 1 month of hire and should prioritize safety and be service oriented
  • The candidates should demonstrate dedication to working in an environment that promotes respect, dependability, and reliability
  • The candidates should possess effective oral communication skills and exhibit motivation to learn
  • The candidates should be self-motivated and adaptable to changing conditions

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to operate various pieces of light and heavy equipment efficiently and safely, as directed by the Road Foreperson
  • The candidates should be able to assist with construction and maintenance activities for highways, recreational roads, airstrips, and other facilities throughout Yukon
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that all equipment and machinery are operated in compliance with safety protocols and manufacturer specifications
  • The candidates should be able to perform routine inspections and maintenance checks on equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate effectively with the Road Foreperson and other team members to prioritize tasks and allocate resources efficiently
  • The candidates should be able to adhere to established standards and guidelines to ensure that highways, roads, airstrips, and other facilities meet acceptable safety standards for public use
