Government of Nunavut, department of Qulliq Energy Corporation based in Cambridge Bay, NU is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Heavy equipment technician. Government of Nunavut, department of Qulliq Energy Corporation is the sole electricity provider in Nunavut, operating under the Government of Nunavut. It delivers power to 25 remote communities through independent diesel-powered plants. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of hold Red Seal certification
Experience: Candidates should have experience in diesel power generation

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess intra-provincial certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician or similar certification
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Nunavut, including the land, language, and culture
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and/or French

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical generation systems, subsystems, and equipment to ensure maximum productivity and quality
  • The candidates should be able to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair emergency mechanical systems, subsystems, and equipment, and replace components
  • The candidates should be able to travel to remote communities to perform regular inspections, conduct preventative maintenance, install equipment, and complete general repairs to mechanical generation systems
  • The candidates should be able to work in collaboration with the Engineering department to review design and equipment specifications to ensure projects meet all regulatory and QEC compliance standards
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with related trades and staff to ensure on-time and on-budget completion of capital and O&M projects
  • The candidates should be able to maintain maintenance documentation and coordinate with Engineering, operators, and maintenance staff when amendments, liaise with external agencies, including the Office of the Auditor General, financial institutions, and stakeholders
  • The candidates should be able to provide on-site solutions or modifications to bring systems back online as quickly as possible during outage situations while mitigating risk to equipment
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times and act proactively to make timely recommendations for continuous improvement of operations and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate with Stores to ensure appropriate electrical inventory and materials are ordered in advance of the annual sealift season
