Government of Nunavut’s Qulliq Energy Corporation based in Iqaluit, NU is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Heavy equipment technician. Government of Nunavut’s Qulliq Energy Corporation manages electricity generation and distribution in Nunavut. It provides reliable power supply to communities across the territory. It ensures the availability of electricity for residential, commercial, and industrial users, supporting economic activities and improving the quality of life for Nunavummiut. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English or French Language
Education: Candidates should have Intra-provincial certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician or similar certification
Experience: Candidates should have experience working in a diesel power plant

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess inter-provincial certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician or similar certification, which is an asset
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Nunavut, including the land, language, and culture
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and/or French

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot, maintain, and overhaul diesel generators and associated support equipment, including engines, pumps, compressors, radiators, heat exchangers, lube oil systems, fuel oil systems, cooling systems, and other related subsystems
  • The candidates should be able to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical generation systems, subsystems, and equipment to ensure maximum productivity and quality
  • The candidates should be able to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair emergency mechanical systems, subsystems, and equipment, and replace them
  • The candidates should be able to travel to remote communities to perform regular inspections, conduct preventative maintenance, install equipment, and perform general repairs to mechanical generation systems
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the Engineering department to review design and equipment specifications to ensure projects meet all regulatory and compliance standards
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with related trades and staff to ensure on-time and on-budget completion of capital and O&M projects
  • The candidates should be able to maintain maintenance documentation and coordinate with Engineering, operators, and maintenance staff when amending documentation
  • The candidates should be able to provide on-site solutions or modifications to bring systems back online as quickly as possible during outage situations while mitigating risk to equipment
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times and make timely recommendations for continuous improvement of operations and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate with Stores to ensure appropriate mechanical inventory and materials are ordered in advance of the annual sealift season
  • The candidates should be able to ensure work is conducted in accordance with all corporate policies and procedures, territorial, provincial, and national codes, and in compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • The candidates should be able to communicate with local and territorial government to advise on power interruptions resulting in direct impact to communities

Benefits:

  • The candidates will get Northern Allowance $16,008 per annum
