Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have successful completion of a two (2) year Community College Law Enforcement program
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of two (2) years experience in fingerprinting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to perform the physical demands of this position
  • The candidates should successfully complete an in-house Identification of Criminals training course and a one-year understudy program
  • The candidates should have the ability to work shift work

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an understanding of the Criminal Code and the Identification of Criminals Act and possess knowledge of fingerprinting techniques and practices
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle and resolve confrontational situations and exhibit accuracy and attention to detail
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • The candidates should hold a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide identification processing services under the authority of the Identification of the Criminal Acts of persons charged with criminal offenses and the collection of DNA under the Criminal Code from persons ordered by the court
  • The candidates should be able to obtain fingerprints, mug shot photographs, and descriptive information of persons charged with or convicted of a dual and/or indictable offense using methods of Ink and Livescan
  • The candidates should be able to provide fingerprint analysis and comparison for confirmation of identity and comparison of latent friction ridge impressions against known suspect fingerprints for identification purposes
  • The candidates should be able to conduct tenprint fingerprint searches in the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and/or register tenprints and able to take fingerprints of EPS staff for employment purposes
  • The candidates should be able to conduct subject searches on ORCA, EPROS, EMugs, CPIC, and JOIN databases and able to obtain DNA samples from persons ordered by the courts to provide samples and respond to correctional facilities to collect DNA samples and/or fingerprints
  • The candidates should be able to deal with persons with outstanding warrants and turn them over to police officers and able to prepare and give evidence in court related to identification processing services
  • The candidates should be able to perform data entry into various databases of information collected during the identification and DNA collection processes
