Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a university degree or community college diploma related to Software Engineering or Computer Science or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years progressive experience in an application systems development and/or maintenance environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in developing native/desktop applications using Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) languages (C++ preferred) in a Linux-based environment
  • The candidates should be proficient in OOPs, C++, QT/QML, Embedded C, Python, and shell scripting, as well as version control
  • The candidates should have knowledge or experience with Linux and/or real-time operating systems (RTOS), including loT platforms such as the MQTT protocol, and the ability to utilize tools for system verification
  • The candidates should possess solid programming skills, with the ability to write structured, readable, and efficient code, and rapidly prototype, implement, and debug solutions to complex problems
  • The candidates should have experience with radio communication systems and demonstrate the ability to work with and manipulate data found in various formats
  • The candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with all levels of stakeholders and the general public
  • The candidates should exhibit strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and possess excellent organizational and time management skills to respond to changing priorities and circumstances effectively
  • The candidates should be able to exercise initiative and sound judgment in fast-paced and often stressful conditions and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment and develop strong working relationships with colleagues, including providing technical guidance and mentoring junior staff
  • The candidates should have the ability to analyze customer requirements to design and develop a solution to meet the business need, with knowledge of Agile methodology being an asset
  • The candidates must receive and maintain a Winnipeg Police Services Level 2 security clearance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to independently undertake small projects or participate with the Project Leader – Solutions Design on medium to large-scale projects, which includes developing and implementing complex software solutions required by other operating divisions of the Transit Department to provide effective, efficient, and continuously improved transit service to the public
  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for delivering high-quality work products throughout the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • The candidates should be able to develop new software applications or independently implement small applications or changes to existing applications
  • The candidates should be able to provide application maintenance and support services for existing production information systems
  • The candidates should be able to perform the systems design and analysis necessary for the specifications of new or enhanced information systems
  • The candidates should be able to supervise and mentor assigned junior programmers on development and support projects
  • The candidates should be able to produce accurate and complete documentation throughout the SDLC and keep supervisor and/or team leader up to date on their progress
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and support existing information system technologies and perform related duties consistent with the classification as required
