Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Master’s Degree in English or related education
Experience: Candidates should have three (3) years of instructional experience teaching English at a post-secondary level

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing to work in conditions exposed to seasonal elements, including extreme cold and other weather conditions, insects, and wildlife

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of adult education theory, program design, development, management, delivery, and evaluation
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of adult instructional methods, program/project development and management, needs assessment, and curriculum development
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and/or the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of educational issues in the NWT and challenges that adult students face in NWT communities
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable about all applicable laws, acts, regulations, rules, policies, guidelines, requirements, and codes in the specific subject matter of instruction
  • The candidates should have knowledge of computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and internet programs
  • The candidates should be able to instruct in field day camp settings in multi-seasonal conditions (fall, winter, spring) for up to two weeks per year
  • The candidates should maintain the currency of knowledge and expertise through regular professional development, work experience, and study, and must maintain any certifications and/or licenses
  • The candidates must instruct to defined course objectives and program standards

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to plan, implement, and supervise student learning in classrooms and ensure the safety of all relevant areas and experiences
  • The candidates should be able to ensure learning environments comply with all regulations, requirements, and laws consistent with all applicable safety, workplace, and environmental standards
  • The candidates should be able to develop and routinely revise course materials that are relevant, current, and consistent with subject content
  • The candidates should be able to initiate and maintain contact with a broad base of human resources, including professional, traditional knowledge, educational, and occupational resources
  • The candidates should be able to undertake administrative tasks related to the delivery of instructional activities
  • The candidates should be able to promote Aurora College activities, maintain public relations, and market program activities
