Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed secondary education
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of laboratory work experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts, which will vary based on operational needs and may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays
  • The candidates should be aware that shifts will be assigned 6 weeks in advance, meet the physical requirements for the role, including the ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, preferably have a post-secondary background in science
  • The candidates should possess technical skills including proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn systems and programs
  • The candidates should have good oral and written communication skills, follow instructions precisely, prepare and maintain accurate records, and carry out repetitive tasks effectively
  • The candidates should have experience in food processing, pharmaceutical, or biologics manufacturing

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to receive, assess, and process whole blood, apheresis platelets, and plasma into the required blood components, drawing on their knowledge and experience in laboratory functions
  • The candidates should be able to accurately record temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and monitor environmental conditions within the laboratory
  • The candidates should be able to maintain thorough and compliant documentation and records related to inventory, in alignment with Canadian Blood Services operational procedures and work instructions
  • The candidates should be able to perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and work areas to ensure the safety and quality of blood product
