Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed high school
Experience: Candidates should have experience in grounds maintenance and be familiar with the tools and equipment used in this type of work
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should have the ability to make sound decisions and ability to independently manage time and organize tasks
- The candidate should demonstrate professionalism, provide a recent and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract, be physically capable of performing labour-intensive work, including heavy lifting
- The candidate should be prepared to work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, be willing to travel extensively throughout the region
- The candidate should be prepared for a position that may often require significant, compensated overtime
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have experience in road maintenance and be familiar with the tools and equipment used in this type of work
- The candidate should hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license (Province of Newfoundland and Labrador) and hold a valid Flag Person certificate
- The candidate should have knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, tools, and equipment
- The candidate should have knowledge of road maintenance practices, tools, and equipment
- The candidate should have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to perform manual, physically demanding, semi-skilled work required in the operations and maintenance of government roads and bridges
- The candidate should be able to safely operate various tools and equipment used for highway maintenance, including the incidental operation of a motor vehicle
- The candidate should be able to carry out labour-intensive tasks, including heavy lifting, work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
- The candidate should be able to perform tasks such as pothole patching, ditching, and repairs to road signs and guardrails
- The candidate should be able to shovel snow from doorways and walkways, pick up parts and materials, load and unload trucks, and keep job sites clean and free of debris
- The candidate should be able to dig fence post holes and clean and maintain tools and equipment
- The candidate should be able to act as a flag person to direct highway traffic, perform other related duties
