Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a high school diploma
Experience: Candidates should have 1–2 years of previous supervisory experience in industries such as transportation, construction, logistics, oil and gas, military, airlines, mining, or manufacturing
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to foster trust and build strong relationships in new work environments
- The candidates should demonstrate proven time management abilities and effective communication skills
- The candidates should show flexibility and adaptability in response to changing priorities and work situations
- The candidates should be able to travel for extended periods, as training may be conducted in various locations
- The candidates should be willing to relocate across the CPKC network, with preference given to those open to relocation
- The candidates should be available to work 24/7 shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, be capable of working in all weather conditions
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have general equivalency; post-secondary education in a technical trade, prior railway experience in a mechanical foreman role and possess a valid driver’s license
- The candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills to convey policies, procedures, project plans, and safety guidelines
- The candidates should possess leadership presence and a strong drive for career advancement
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to quickly learn, retain, and apply mechanical bad order processes, cycle time, dwell time, productivity, and key operational metrics to effectively assign tasks and lead mechanical operations teams
- The candidate should be able to act as a safety leader by conducting active observations, promoting rule compliance, and implementing preventative measures through staff engagement
- The candidate should be able to demonstrate effective leadership capabilities and successfully lead mechanical operations employees, model leadership proficiencies, including commitment to results, leading others, strategic thinking, and leading by example
- The candidate should be able to prioritize work with a sense of urgency and make decisions aligned with CPKC’s values and five foundational principles: operating safely, developing people, controlling costs, optimizing assets, and providing service
- The candidate should be able to complete and pass management train conductor certification and be available for deployment as required by the business
- The candidate should be able to successfully complete all phases of the LMT program, including written and practical evaluations, and deliver all reading, assignments, and projects on time
- The candidate should be able to demonstrate competence in mechanical operations to support future career advancement
