Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a grade 12 diploma and 4 years of relevant experience in the maintenance and repair of light and heavy vehicles and equipment
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to perform heavy lifting, various levels of standing, climbing, sitting, and crouching as required
  • The candidates should be reliable self-starters and able to prioritize tasks according to changing demands, and they should be able to work with or without supervision
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment and have a sincere focus on quality customer service

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Truck and Coach (310T) License. Preference will be given to candidates who possess both a valid Automotive (310S) & Truck and Coach Technician (310T) Licence
  • The candidates should hold a valid ‘DZ’ driver’s license or have a valid G license with the ability to obtain a DZ license within a specified timeframe in the position. They should have a good driving record and a proven ability to operate heavy equipment and vehicles in a safe manner. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their license is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or the nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements
  • The candidates should be computer literate and familiar with electronic diagnosis equipment
  • The candidates should have computer keyboarding skills and beginner skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • The candidates should have knowledge of WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all systems on various types of light and heavy vehicles and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to perform all inspection, maintenance, and repair of all types of light and heavy vehicles, including diagnosis and correction of problems with diesel and/or gasoline engines, automatic transmissions, brakes, steering, and other vehicle components as per approved policy
  • The candidates should be able to conduct hydraulic repairs and service
  • The candidates should be able to lubricate, refuel, change oil, service tires, and batteries, etc., as required
  • The candidates should be able to maintain accurate and legible record keeping
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a neat, tidy, and clean workplace
  • The candidates should be able to assist with Apprentice training
  • The candidates should be able to perform maintenance activities as required
  • The candidates should be able to perform all other related duties as assigned
