Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited practical nurse education program
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children and youth with addiction and mental health concerns

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the physical ability to move quickly and effectively within the child psychiatry unit. This may involve walking, standing, and responding promptly to the needs of young patients
  • The candidates should engage in physical activities such as bending down to communicate with children at their eye level, providing comfort, and participating in therapeutic activities
  • The candidates should be physically prepared to handle crisis situations, including the ability to assist in the safe restraint or support of a child during a behavioural crisis, ensuring the safety of both the child and the healthcare team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and possess a practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • The candidates should hold a current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong computer literacy skills
  • The candidates should have experience with Connect Care

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to have a passion for working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support our young clients and their families through the path of the care continuum
  • The candidates should be able to take responsibility for mental health assessment and triaging of psychiatry referrals, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of addiction and mental health in children and adolescents
  • The candidates should be able to possess knowledge and skills in computer software programs while understanding the complex relationships between the youth’s physical, emotional, mental, developmental, and spiritual health
  • The candidates should be able to adopt a patient-centered and family-centered approach in their care practices, following AHS Values and Policies
  • The candidates should be able to provide mentorship and leadership within the team environment based on their scope of practice and skill set
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate strong assessment skills, the ability to use critical thinking, flexibility, and the ability to work in a high-paced environment
