Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a recognized Licensed Practical Nurse program
Experience: Candidates should have accumulated two (2) years of experience within a full scope of practice, including medication and vaccination administration

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be individuals with the ability to provide vaccinations according to the Northwest Territories Immunization Schedule and the Canadian Immunization Schedule, and they should have successfully completed the Education Program for Immunization Competencies (EPIC)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be individuals with knowledge and the ability to apply nursing practices and processes within the LPN scope of practice
  • The candidates should be individuals with the ability to assess and facilitate learning needs of the client as pertaining to applicable vaccinations, communicable diseases, treatments, and/or prevention and health protection
  • The candidates should be individuals with the ability to commit to actively upholding and consistently practicing personal diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness, as well as safety and sensitivity approaches in the workplace
  • The candidates should be individuals with organizational capacity to plan, implement, and evaluate multiple assessments, projects, and meet deadlines at the individual, group, and community levels

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report directly to the Regional Manager of Primary Care in Inuvik
  • The candidates should be able to provide services and culturally sensitive care to people in the remote communities of Aklavik, Fort McPherson, Tsiigehtchic, and Tuktoyaktuk
  • The candidates should be able to travel between Aklavik, Fort McPherson, Tsiigehtchic, and Tuktoyaktuk, which may involve travel by road and/or small aircraft in a variety of weather conditions
  • The candidates should be able to work in outdoor winter conditions and be required to load and unload equipment
  • The candidates should be able to handle situations where hotel accommodations are not available in all locations, which may necessitate sleeping in temporary accommodation locations
