Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited practical nurse education program
Experience: Candidates should have at least 1 year of acute care experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities effectively and work well independently and within a team
- The candidates should demonstrate critical thinking skills within their scope of practice, including clinical judgment, problem-solving skills, and strong decision-making ability
- The candidates should be able to work in a physically demanding environment, involving constant walking, bending, and lifting 50 lbs
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
- The candidates should have current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification and IV Therapy and PICC certification
- The candidates should have successfully completed CLPNA modules – Standards of Practice on Restricted Activities and Advanced Practice, as well as certifications in required competencies
- The candidates should have basic keyboarding or computer skills and excellent communication skills
- The candidates should have experience working within the CoACT framework and Connect Care experience
- The candidates should have ACLS certification favored and experience in the care of medical, post-operative surgical, orthopedic, and Subacute patients
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to participate in quality monitoring activities and facilitate patient and family-centered education and discharge planning in accordance with established standards, and the vision, values, policies, and procedures of Alberta Health Services (AHS)
- The candidates should be able to work within the identified scope of practice of the Unit of hire, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, and practice according to the policies and procedures set out by AHS while maintaining competent practice and providing care according to CLPNA regulations
- The candidates should be able to be part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- The candidates should be able to be guided by their education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and AHS policies and procedures
- The candidates should be able to play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
