Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should regularly require physical exertion and handle, move, push, or pull objects between 10 – 15 lbs and occasionally support, lift, or move patients/objects up to 30 lbs
- The candidates should regularly work in awkward cramped positions bending, kneeling, stretching and constantly stand and move about
- The candidates should regularly push and pull objects using light to medium forces and stand and walk
- The candidates should regularly require visual concentration to give medications, read orders, referrals, patients’ charts, documents, and observe and treat patients, combined with time pressures and deadlines
- The candidates should demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have current licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CLPNNL) and gerontology experience and current BLS certification
- The candidates should have knowledge of seniors’ issues and support best practices in gerontological care
- The candidates should have the ability to deal effectively with end-of-life issues and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to maintain effective working relationships and a satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide quality nursing care to residents by assisting in their daily living activities, providing personal care, and promoting independent living
- The candidates should be able to meet the physical, social, and spiritual needs of residents through partnerships with the resident, the resident’s family, and other members of the inter professional team
- The candidates should be able to plan and supervise care within their scope of practice, providing support and direction to Personal Care Attendants
- The candidates should be able to monitor resident outcomes, intervene if necessary, and reassess and adjust the plan of care or resident assignment in consultation with the Registered Nurse
- The candidates should be able to manage the diverse needs of residents in long-term care settings, which include frail or elderly adults, individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, and individuals with mental illness, while maintaining frequent contact with the public, residents, and other health professionals
