Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in Gerontology

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include regularly requiring physical exertion and handling, moving, pushing, or pulling objects between 10 – 15 lbs, and occasionally being required to support, lift, or move patients/objects up to 30 lbs
  • The candidates should acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include regularly being required to work in awkward cramped positions (bending/kneeling/stretching) and constantly standing and moving about
  • The candidates should acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include regularly pushing and pulling objects using light to medium forces and standing and walking
  • The candidates should acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include regularly requiring visual concentration to give medications, read orders/referrals, patients’ charts/documents, observe and treat patients, combined with time pressures and deadlines

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold current licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CLPNNL)
  • The candidates should have current BLS certification
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of seniors’ issues and support best practices in gerontological care
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to deal effectively with end-of-life issues
  • The candidates should exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • The candidates should show initiative and the ability to work independently
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide quality nursing care as valuable members of the Resident Care Team in long-term care settings
  • The candidates should be able to assist residents with their daily living activities and provide personalized care
  • The candidates should be able to promote independent living while addressing the physical, social, and spiritual needs of residents
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate effectively with residents, their families, and other members of the interprofessional team
  • The candidates should be able to plan and supervise care within their scope of practice and be accountable for its outcomes
  • The candidates should be able to offer support and guidance to Personal Care Attendants as needed.
  • The candidates should be able to monitor resident outcomes, intervene when necessary, and adjust care plans or assignments in consultation with Registered Nurses
  • The candidates should be able to navigate the complexities of long-term care settings, including diverse resident needs and a fast-paced work environment
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with the public, residents, and other healthcare professionals
