Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience: Candidates should have some cleaning experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in a mechanical and high-risk safety environment, as well as in the use of various cleaning agents and chemicals
  • The candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to wear a face mask for an extended period of time
  • The candidates should be capable of working in an environment that may include heat, cold, wet, dust, and noise
  • The candidates should demonstrate physical ability and manual dexterity to perform duties, including repetitive bending, kneeling, and lifting

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess the ability to understand, communicate in, read, and write English at a level needed to meet job-related tasks and safety requirements
  • The candidates should exhibit a strong work ethic and a willingness/ability to learn on the job and update skills
  • The candidates should be committed to safety using Occupational Health and Safety and environmental standards and procedures
  • The candidates should possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent); obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position
  • The candidates should be prepared to take a pre-employment Functional Abilities Assessment Evaluation (F.A.R.E. test) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • The candidates should conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City’s Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive, and service-minded style
  • The candidates should align with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same

  • The candidates should possess current Standard First Aid and WHIMIS certifications and Industrial, warehouse, or equipment, mechanical/automotive shop environment, or car detailing experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform cleaning functions on the interior and/or exterior of Light Rail Transit (LRT) vehicles
  • The candidates should be able to clean up the shop and perform some general-purpose maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to clean the interior of transit vehicles, including the floor area, driver’s compartment, sweeping and mopping, disinfecting, handrails, and seats
  • The candidates should be able to empty garbage, report damage, and turn in lost and found items daily
  • The candidates should be able to perform periodic cleaning of interior walls, windows, ceilings, ledges, seats, destination signs, and floors of transit vehicles by hand or using mechanical equipment
  • The candidates should be able to remove marks, stains, and materials such as gum, graffiti, and tar from the interior and/or exterior of transit vehicles
  • The candidates should be able to clean interior windows using spray cleaners and paper towels
  • The candidates should be able to sweep shop floors by hand, clean up oil spills, and wash shop walls and floors using various cleaners and detergents
  • The candidates should be able to clean snow and ice from doorways
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as required, which may include cleaning of the garage
