Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have experience performing manual duties

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work extended hours, weekends, and statutory holidays, subject to call out and working under adverse weather conditions
  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing all of the required job duties, including lifting/carrying 0-25kg, walking on rough terrain, sitting and standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, operating vehicles, and wearing personal equipment
  • The candidates should be able to respond to work within 30 minutes of a call

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and be able to upgrade to Class 3 with air brake endorsement within 6 months
  • The candidates should have experience performing manual duties, experience operating hand and power tools, experience operating light and/or heavy-duty equipment and have experience servicing and/or making minor repairs to vehicles and equipment
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Occupational Safety, Health & Risk Management and have the ability to work independently
  • The candidates should have the ability to work as part of a team, possess strong interpersonal communication skills and possess effective communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Area Works Supervisor and receive lead hand direction from the Assistant Works Supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to operate and maintain maintenance equipment, small hand and power tools, and perform physical maintenance work associated with highway maintenance activities
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safety of workers and the traveling public while maintaining public infrastructure
