Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 10 education
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 6 months of experience working with a maintenance and/or crew environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work on 24/7 rotating shifts, overtime, and/or on-call
  • The candidates should have good physical health and physical fitness

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • The candidates should have knowledge of equipment/tools and technical procedures and processes used in the work, such as coning vehicles, segments of the road, and the work area, as well as operation of equipment like high-pressure hydraulics, aerial vehicles, and painting machines
  • The candidates should have general knowledge of computerized systems, including Microsoft Office applications like Excel and Outlook, is required
  • The candidates should be familiar with city procedures for installing, repairing, and maintaining signs and traffic devices, as well as removing and reinstating/overlaying road markings
  • The candidates should have general tool maintenance and repair techniques
  • The candidates should have a general knowledge of City/departmental health and safety policies and procedures, as well as Ottawa Hydro procedures and protocols for working around high voltage electricity
  • The candidates should have knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and identify problems, developing alternate options/solutions
  • The candidates should have the ability to collaborate and work effectively with work crews is essential, demonstrating a team player attitude
  • The candidates should be dependable, reliable, and tactful with personable communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to manage the design, installation, modification, maintenance, and removal of traffic signs, specialty signs, and pavement markings
  • The candidates should work on a crew responsible for assembling, installing, removing, and maintaining traffic control devices (traffic, directional, specialty, and other signs) OR removing and reinstating pavement markings on road surfaces within the City of Ottawa
