Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should hold a Cook certificate recognized by a province or a training certificate indicating successful completion of a cooking course
Experience: Candidates should have experience working within the Marine Industry in the capacity of Cook

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to solve problems independently, the ability to manage time effectively
  • The candidates should be client-service oriented demonstrate a strong commitment to safety
  • The candidates should be able to provide a Certificate of Conduct and a Vulnerable Sector Query satisfactory to the Employer
  • The candidates should be willing to participate in any safety course training, as offered and required by the Department

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Food Safety and Handling Certificate, completed the required MEDs STCW Basic Safety training
  • The candidates should hold a valid Marine Medical Certificate, possess a Marine Basic First Aid Certificate
  • The candidates should have knowledge of working within the Marine Industry in the capacity of Cook
  • The candidates should have knowledge of food safety and handling practices, basic computer skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to prepare and serve meals for crew members in a safe and efficient manner
  • The candidate should be able to maintain the galley, equipment, and related areas through regular cleaning and housekeeping duties
  • The candidate should be able to manage food inventory, including the safe handling, storage, and rotation of food items
  • The candidate should be able to reconcile food purchase receipts and process transactions using the Oracle financial management system and P-card procedures, ensuring proper documentation and verification signatures
  • The candidate should be able to stand watch and contribute to the general cleanliness and upkeep of the vessel and its equipment during operations in coastal waters
  • The candidate should be able to perform emergency and fire safety duties, use a computer effectively to carry out administrative and financial responsibilities related to their duties
  • The candidate should be able to perform other related tasks as assigned to support safe marine transportation operations
