Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a two year technical diploma in a related field, preferably in Animal Science, Animal Health, Veterinary Technology, or Food Safety and Food Science
Experience: Candidates should have two years of directly related meat inspection work experience, such as working as a meat inspector on kill floors
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience as a meat inspector within the Canadian federal or provincial systems, be aware that meat inspection experience may not be substituted with other education or experience
- The candidates should be considered for equivalencies where directly related education or experience is evaluated on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
- The candidates should have knowledge of animal diseases and pathology, understand the requirements for humane livestock handling and stunning
- The candidates should be familiar with food safety principles for slaughter and meat processing
- The candidates should demonstrate familiarity with and the ability to interpret regulatory standards such as the Meat Inspection Act (AB), Meat Inspection Regulation (AB), and Meat Facility Standards
- The candidates should have experience using computer technology and applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
- The candidates should possess strong competencies in communication and conflict resolution, with skills such as Verbal Judo
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform pre-operation inspections to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
- The candidates should be able to conduct ante and post-mortem examinations of animals as part of inspection protocols
- The candidates should be able to complete time reporting accurately and in a timely manner
- The candidates should be able to prepare and maintain relevant inspection documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements
