Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have five years of Journeyperson experience with vehicles, large equipment and heavy-duty truck repairs
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to comprehend technical service manuals and bulletins
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson designation in Automotive, Truck and Transport, or Heavy-Duty mechanics and possession of a recognized Apprenticeship Certificate
- The candidates should possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Driver’s Licence and possess a WHMIS training certificate, with training provided upon hire
- The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record
- The candidates should have considerable knowledge of the operation and use of current test equipment and knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
- The candidates should have knowledge of electronic engines, transmissions, hydraulics, air or hydraulic brakes, and other on-board vehicle systems
- The candidates should have the ability to work with minimal supervision, individually or as a team member and ability to process and complete all required forms and reports
- The candidates should have demonstrated skills in welding and fabrication and skill in the operation of a computer
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to review work orders, carry out repairs, and perform preventative maintenance on a variety of vehicles and equipment
- The candidate should be able to inspect vehicles and equipment, including conducting road tests when necessary, and test various systems and components to diagnose specific problems
- The candidate should be able to adjust, repair, and replace parts and components of vehicles and equipment using hand tools and specialized equipment
- The candidate should be able to test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturer’s performance specifications
- The candidate should be able to perform a variety of preventative maintenance and safety inspections, including SGI inspections, to comply with regulatory requirements
- The candidate should be able to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and associated components and perform minor fabrication and welding duties
- The candidate should be able to complete required documentation such as inspection forms and service reports
- The candidate should be able to support and promote the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with relevant regulations and standards
- The candidate should be able to maintain and monitor programs that impact public and employee health and safety, following the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health and Safety policies and departmental procedures
