Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have five years’ journeyperson experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to inspect civilian vehicles, to assist Police with vehicle
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and repair a variety of vehicles and related equipment
  • The candidates should be able to inspect vehicles and equipment, including road tests where necessary, and test various systems and components to determine specific problems
  • The candidates should be able to adjust, repair, and replace parts and components of vehicles and equipment using hand tools and other specialized equipment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Saskatchewan Journeyperson Automotive Service Technician Certificate
  • The candidates should hold a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record
  • The candidates should have a possession of WHMIS training certificate, with training provided upon hire
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to process and complete required forms and reports
  • The candidates should be able to comprehend technical service manuals and bulletins
  • The candidates should have the ability to work with minimal supervision, either individually or as part of a team
  • The candidates should possess skill in the operation and use of current testing equipment and computer systems related to service and parts information
  • The candidates should demonstrate thorough knowledge of electronic engines, transmissions, vehicle electrical systems, hydraulic brakes, and other on-board vehicle systems
  • The candidates should possess considerable knowledge of the operation and use of current test equipment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to measure the accuracy of Police vehicle speedometers, and submit certificates to court as evidence
  • The candidates should be able to prepare Police vehicles for service, including items such as electrical and specialized light installations, design, and fabrication of mounts
  • The candidates should be able to complete required documentation such as inspection forms and service reports
  • The candidates should be able to support and promote the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health and Safety policies and departmental procedures
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and monitor programs which affect public and employee health and safety
