City of Calgary’s Fleet Services department manages and maintains the municipality’s vehicle fleet. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a completed 2 year diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience in mechanical drafting and CAD modelling

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should periodically attend in the shop to meet with Journeyman and at field locations to meet with clients, and conduct inspections post-delivery
  • The candidates should provide proof of qualifications

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess the ability to create solid models and assemblies, along with reading, interpreting, and creating technical drawings using CAD software from a variety of information sources
  • The candidates should have knowledge of welding and machining procedures, manufacturing processes, Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) requirements, and previous shop experience
  • The candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, a strong customer focus, quality orientation, and strong problem-solving skills for success in this position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to create, revise, and store 2-D and 3-D computer-aided design (CAD) models and assemblies for vehicles and equipment accessories, parts, tools, and other items as per customer requests
  • The candidates should be able to develop, implement, and improve engineering drawing and related manufacturing file creation, revision, tracking, and storage processes
  • The candidates should be able to take responsibility for assigned design projects and execute conceptual and detailed design work under the supervision and sign-off from a professional engineer
  • The candidates should be able to gather project requirements, seek clarification on work required, and recommend cost-effective solutions
  • The candidates should be able to provide approved drawings and bill of materials to the Fabrication Shop Planner or Estimator
  • The candidates should be able to select suitable materials, apply available manufacturing capabilities, and provide detailed fabrication instruction
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance of all technical documentation with the corporate document retention strategy and Fleet Services Engineering Professional Practice Management Plan (FSEPPMP)
  • The candidates should be able to use Autodesk Vault to manage and maintain electronic files related to manufacturing to ensure compliance with revision control requirements
  • The candidates should be able to maintain, document, and sustain a scalable system for creating, storing, tracking, and updating engineering drawings
  • The candidates should be able to make recommendations for process improvements to reflect gaps in existing practices and changes to common industry practice
