Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Master of Nursing, Nursing Practitioner Family All Ages or Adult stream
Experience: Candidates should have experience working in rural or remote First Nation’s communities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should be eligible for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Yukon Registered Nurses Association and current Heart and Stroke BLS certification
  • The candidate should have recently applied knowledge of Nurse Practitioner theory, practices, and techniques, normally acquired through work experience. Typically, this should be demonstrated through a minimum of 1-2 years of independent NP practice and trauma and its relationship with substance use, and the ability to provide trauma-informed care
  • The candidate should develop strong relationships with multidisciplinary teams to influence collaborative goals
  • The candidate should have the ability to provide leadership as a clinical expert/resource to provide quality care and service delivery
  • The candidate should have a strong understanding of ethics and confidentiality in practice and recognize the importance of self-care
  • The candidate should have the ability to research current literature and integrate new evidence-based principles into nursing practice as appropriate
  • The candidate should be able to provide person-centered care that focuses on improving outcomes
  • The candidate should have excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to solve complex problems
  • The candidates should hold a Class 5 Driver’s License and possess RCMP Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector
  • The candidates should have current, active registration with the Yukon Registered Nurses Association as a Nurse Practitioner, in good standing and undergo TB screening

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide comprehensive health care to community members in rural Yukon
  • The candidates should be able to serve rural or remote and First Nations communities with a passion
  • The candidates should be able to blend research, specialized nursing knowledge, and experience in complex decision-making
  • The candidates should be able to use legislated authority to provide advanced practice primary health care to meet the health needs of individuals and families
  • The candidates should be able to act as an important link between clients and health services
  • The candidates should be able to strike a balance between autonomous practice and a broader collaborative model of care
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with primary health care nurses, family physicians, community health nurses, and other allied health professionals optometrists and  dentists
