Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Journeyperson’s Certificate in Painting/Plastering
Experience: Candidates should have experience as a journeyperson Painter/Plasterer in a commercial or industrial setting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to lift objects and equipment weighing 25 to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • The candidates should be prepared for work that involves standing and constantly walking, which can include climbing ladders, scaffolds, and stairs bending, kneeling, crawling, and stretching painting walls, baseboards, ceilings, and working in confined spaces
  • The candidates should possess manual/physical abilities including constant fine finger/precision work when painting trim or straight lines; using hand tools such as a sander, grinder, rotary tools; and maintaining physical balance when climbing ladders or scaffolds
  • The candidates should exhibit alertness and visual concentration when performing repetitive tasks such as mixing paint, climbing ladders and scaffolds, painting and plastering, and operating power tools
  • The candidates should demonstrate higher than normal levels of attentiveness or alertness for the health and safety of others, especially when working in public areas where dust control, fumes, and/or allergies are an issue or when working on ladders and scaffolding in crowded areas
  • The candidates should be prepared for interruptions and lack of control over work pace due to competing priorities, changes to the job while in progress, and adverse weather conditions if working outside

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a class IV driver’s license and have a satisfactory driver’s
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, and sanding paper surfaces, ensuring proper adhesion of paint and finishes
  • The candidates should be able to apply paint and finishes to interior and exterior structures, furniture, and equipment with precision and attention to detail
  • The candidates should be able to putty slight defects in woodwork and patch holes in walls to ensure a smooth and uniform surface for painting
  • The candidates should be able to erect scaffolding safely and efficiently to access elevated areas for painting and plastering work
  • The candidates should be able to clean paint brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other equipment used in the painting process to maintain their effectiveness and longevity
  • The candidates should be able to spackle new gyproc and construction, sanding and finishing to achieve a seamless integration with existing surfaces
  • The candidates should be able to apply and remove wall coverings such as wallpaper and vinyl paper according to project specifications
  • The candidates should be able to set up enclosures in compliance with the organization’s Infection Control/Asbestos management protocol to ensure safety and adherence to regulations
  • The candidates should be able to understand and apply knowledge of various paint types, including their properties, applications, and limitations
  • The candidates should be able to perform tasks in a physically demanding environment, involving significant standing, walking, bending, and lifting, while maintaining focus on quality and safety standards throughout the process
