Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have minimum Grade 12 diploma.; Post-secondary education in Parks, Facility management, or a recognized trade / program is preferred.
Experience: Candidates should have 1-3 years of relevant experience in pool and water system maintenance

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be current and possess a valid Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate and have a minimum of 1 year experience operating as a CPO
  • The candidates should be experienced in maintaining Class A and C pools, splash pads, fountains, and water-related equipment, which is highly preferred
  • The candidates should have a general understanding of Provincial and Municipal legislation and various Acts including the OHSA, CSA standards, Reg. 565, and other codes relevant to the position’s responsibilities
  • The candidates should have strong customer service skills with the ability to deescalate conflict through effective verbal and written communication skills
  • The candidates should possess a valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s license in good standing with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City
  • The candidates should preferably hold a Certified Aquatic Technician (CAT) designation in good standing, considered an asset
  • The candidates should be comfortable troubleshooting issues with compressors, motors, filters, and pumps, and confident working on computers and tablets in a Microsoft-based environment
  • The candidates should be capable of meeting the physical demands associated with the role, including lifting, working in various weather conditions, and handling chemicals responsibly
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to lift, move, and handle chemicals responsibly and work with minimum supervision
  • The candidates should have the ability and willingness to obtain a Spray Pad Practitioner Certificate and Certified Playground Inspector certification within the first year of employment
  • The candidates should possess the willingness and skillset to cross-train and support similar roles in FMDS, including the ability to apprentice and obtain TSSA inspection credentials
  • The candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • The candidates should have a strong commitment to delivering quality customer service
  • The candidates should have a passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment
  • The candidates should be available and willing to work day, evening, and weekend shifts, including overtime
  • The candidates should pass a Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the City
  • The candidates should provide proof of their current and valid certificate(s), licenses, and/or educational qualifications if applicable

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safe and efficient operation, care, and maintenance of splash pads and fountains within the City of Waterloo
  • The candidates should be able to maintain water quality according to and above legislated standards, including required chemical checks, water chemistry adjustments, and cleanouts
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a functional and organized pump room environment, including gauges, pump controllers, cleanouts, filters, floor space, and stocked materials
  • The candidates should be able to keep records of activities and maintenance performed according to industry standards and governing regulations and work with the Supervisor to improve procedures and standards
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and perform Spring startup and Fall winterization activities
  • The candidates should be able to ensure effective customer service with team members and members of the public
  • The candidates should be able to participate in winter control operations, including snow removal and salt application, operating snow removal equipment and vehicles safely, and conducting daily checks on vehicles and equipment while documenting any issues
