Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Certificate or Diploma, preferably in a Human or Health Service-related field
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum one-year experience in the fields of mental health and/or addictions.

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform tasks involving heavy lifting, reaching, repetitive actions, and bending.
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to move, ascend, descend, and position oneself from the floor for prolonged periods

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a preference for Mental Health First Aid training
  • The candidates should have ASIST, First Aid/CPR, and Safe Food Handling Certification or the willingness to obtain on their own within 3 months
  • The candidates should have lived experience with mental health/addictions and demonstrated experience working with individuals facing mental health/addictions issues
  • The candidates should possess OPDI – Peer Support core Essential Training Certification or an approved alternative training (or willingness to obtain), which is preferred
  • The candidates should maintain an acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check throughout employment and, if required, possess a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • The candidates should provide effective client services in English and French, if possible

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to promote positive and supportive attitudes toward individuals who have experienced mental health/addictions problems
  • The candidates should provide outreach support in the community within various programs, including Clubhouse, Emergency Department Navigator, Community Hubs, Residential, and Downtown Ambassadors
  • The candidates should engage in Peer Support, Community Relations/Advocacy, and General Organizational Responsibilities
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with clients, demonstrating flexibility to function independently and as part of a team
  • The candidates should showcase organizational and time-management skills, accountability, reliability, punctuality, and a working knowledge of community resources
  • The candidates should possess basic computer and internet usage skills, strong communication skills, and a willingness to work flexible hours
  • The candidates should demonstrate personal knowledge of the mental health system and the ability to engage in reasonable self-care strategies, showcasing excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
