Education: Candidates should have successful completion of an approved/recognized Personal Care Attendant Program or other equivalency
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to regularly lift/move objects/supplies up to 30 lb and engage in frequent standing and walking
  • The candidates should regularly demonstrate a variety of body movements, including bending, kneeling, stretching, and pushing and pulling objects using light to medium force
  • The candidates should be proficient in data input, visual monitoring, and maintain higher than normal levels of attentiveness and attention to the health and safety of others in the provision of all forms of care
  • The candidates should work in environment fast paced with frequent contact with the public, residents, and other health professionals

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed an adequate portion of the BN or Practical Nurse program to enable the applicant to meet a majority of the duties, responsibilities, and psychomotor competencies of the PCA
  • The candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills, be able to maintain effective working relationships with residents, staff, and families, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work independently while prioritizing work duties
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance


  • The candidates should be able to provide support to residents in all aspects of daily living through companionship, physical, spiritual, and psychosocial care
  • The candidates should be able to perform duties related to all aspects of the residents’ personal needs, including nutrition, personal hygiene, and mobility
  • The candidates should be able to assist with planning and providing various recreational activities for residents
  • The candidates should be able to support families and residents for end-of-life issues
  • The candidates should be able to escort residents as needed
  • The candidates should be able to perform duties under the direction of a registered nurse/licensed practical nurse
  • The candidates should be able to work in keeping with the philosophy of resident-centered care
