Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have successful completion of an approved/recognized Personal Care Attendant Program or other equivalency
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should regularly lift/move objects/supplies up to 30 lb and engage in frequent standing and walking
- The candidates should regularly perform a variety of body movements including bending, kneeling, stretching, and pushing and pulling objects using light to medium force
- The candidates should engage in data input, visual monitoring, and maintain higher than normal levels of attentiveness and attention to the health and safety of others in the provision of all forms of care
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be prepared for a fast-paced work environment with frequent contact with the public, residents, and other health professionals
- The candidates should have completed an adequate portion of the BN or Practical Nurse program to enable them to meet a majority of the duties, responsibilities, and psychomotor competencies of the PCA
- The candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills, be able to maintain effective working relationships with residents, staff, and families, demonstrate initiative, work independently, and prioritize work duties
- The candidates should provide a satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide support to residents in all aspects of daily living, including companionship, physical, spiritual, and psychosocial care
- The candidates should be able to assist residents with their personal needs, such as nutrition, personal hygiene, and mobility
- The candidates should be able to assist with planning and providing various recreational activities for residents
- The candidates should be able to support families and residents for end-of-life issues with empathy and compassion and be able to escort residents as needed
- The candidates should be able to perform duties under the direction of a registered nurse/licensed practical nurse and in accordance with the philosophy of resident-centered care
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and healthcare team members
