- The candidate should be 16 years of age or older
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to receive prescriptions from patients, ensuring compliance with provincial legal and regulatory requirements, and assess prescriptions for completeness, including verifying the patient’s name, address, date of birth, allergies, third-party information, special requests, prescriber details, and prioritizing according to 21st Century Guidelines
- The candidate should be able to perform computer functions as directed by the pharmacist, such as data entry, price checks, patient information updates, interpretation and processing of written prescriptions (including Latin abbreviations), dosage calculations, refill processing, report generation, and patient profile reviews
- The candidate should be able to assist in filling prescriptions under the pharmacist’s supervision, including selecting appropriate products, conducting accuracy checks (7-point, visual, DIN), counting/measuring and preparing medications, labeling and organizing for pharmacist verification, gaining approvals for verbal refills when authorized, utilizing ‘STOP’ forms if applicable, and supporting all aspects of Cognitive Services
- The candidate should be able to maintain inventory control by assisting the pharmacist with drug and supply stock levels, checking for and removing expired medications regularly, managing the Will Call Bin, processing returns, ordering supplies from preferred wholesalers, using the Telxon gun, checking and shelving inventory, zoning pharmacy shelves, marking opened bottles, and applying knowledge of interchangeable drugs and preferred generics
- The candidate should be able to maintain general housekeeping by stocking prescription supplies (vials, labels, bags), keeping the dispensary clean and organized, ensuring a safe work environment, and cleaning packaging, dispensing equipment, computers, fax machines, and other tools as part of a team effort
- The candidate should be able to support clerical organization by filing prescriptions, invoices, reports, memos, and correspondence, and completing administrative functions such as journal entries, accounts receivable, and aged trial balance management
- The candidate should be able to assist with over-the-counter (OTC) operations including ordering, stocking, and performing cashier duties as directed by the OTC Manager and/or pharmacist
