Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a diploma in Building Technology
Experience: Candidates should have directly related municipal experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • The candidates should use tact when dealing effectively with developers, contractors, and other members of the public
  • The candidates should have strong organizational skills and attention to detail to aid in handling multiple priorities and tight deadlines

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess related plan review experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • The candidates should have direct experience reviewing Part 9 of the BC Building Code, hold a Building Level II Qualification from the Building Officials’ Association of BC, or an equivalent certification
  • The candidates should have a valid BC driver’s license, demonstrate established judgement and decision-making skills to support plan review decisions and make sound recommendations.
  • The candidates should be skilled in reading and interpreting building construction plans and drawings
  • The candidates should have relevant knowledge of bylaws, regulations, codes, policies, procedures, and standards

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to review proposed building designs and documents for substantial compliance with applicable bylaws and building regulations
  • The candidate should be able to collaborate and coordinate with other City Divisions and Departments to support and facilitate the building permit approval process
  • The candidate should be able to provide information and services to the public regarding technical, regulatory, and Building Code requirements
  • The candidate should be able to prepare related correspondence and reports and perform other related duties
