Government of Nunavut, department of Qulliq Energy Corporation is an electricity provider. It operates 25 diesel power plants in remote communities, serving about 15,500 customers. QEC is advancing renewable energy projects to reduce diesel use, ensuring reliable and sustainable power across the territory’s challenging environment. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a high school diploma
Experience: Candidates should have six months of experience in the production and distribution of power
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should have the ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and/or French
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license and have a satisfactory driver’s abstract, understand that Power Engineering (fourth class)
- The candidate should have knowledge of Nunavut, including its land, language, and culture
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the Iqaluit generation facility by monitoring control room interfaces, conducting regular inspections, and promptly alerting maintenance crews to potential hazards
- The candidate should be able to perform routine maintenance on generation equipment, including oil and filter changes, fuel transfers, glycol replacement, and other similar tasks
- The candidate should be able to assist maintenance crews and contractors by scheduling project events, monitoring systems and components, and performing general labor activities
- The candidate should be able to provide guidance and technical instruction to trainees, ensuring they receive opportunities to develop and practice their skills effectively
- The candidate should be able to ensure that safety and emergency equipment is updated, maintained, and replaced according to applicable timelines and standards
- The candidate should be able to carry out general labor tasks such as basic construction, painting, inventory management, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment
