Work Location: RIM Park Manulife Sportsplex & Healthy Living Centre, Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex & Community Pavilion and Albert McCormick Community Centre
Hours of Work: up to 24 hours / week

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Valid Fitness, Wellness, and/or Personal Training Certification for the course(s) being taught, such as Can Fit Pro, CPTN, 200hr YTT, Pilates (Mat), Barre, Zumba or equivalent education
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 4 years of experience instructing in the specific program that brings an equivalent level of skill and efficacy

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to effectively facilitate fitness lesson programs and support a broad spectrum of fitness levels in one class in a manner that encourages participants to have agency over their class experience
  • The candidates should possess strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • The candidates should hold a Standard First Aid with CPR C certification recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB), which is required
  • The candidates should undergo a satisfactory police Vulnerable Sector check as a condition of hire
  • The candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • The candidates should exhibit a strong commitment to delivering quality customer service
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment
  • The candidates should provide a Police Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City
  • The candidates should furnish proof of their current and valid certificate(s), licenses, and/or educational qualifications, if applicable

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare class content and instruct classes following required Recreation Services and City of Waterloo standards
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate and explain proper technique, prioritizing consensual form correction practices
  • The candidates should be able to complete records and reports including class attendance and accident/incident report forms as required
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that rooms are in a safe condition for class, monitor the safety of program participants at all times, and enforce City procedures and safety regulations
  • The candidates should be able to prepare, set-up, and take-down equipment and supplies required for class
  • The candidates should be able to review emergency procedures with participants and respond to and/or assist with on-site emergencies, incidents, and accidents
  • The candidates should be able to respond to participants’ immediate questions and provide general customer service support
  • The candidates should be able to act as a liaison between the City of Waterloo and participants
  • The candidates should be able to undergo annual re-certification (if applicable) or annual training in related modality, diversity, equity, and inclusion, or to align with program goals
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as required
