Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Completion of an accredited nursing education program
Experience: Candidates should have 2-year acute care medical/surgical nursing experience within the last 5 years

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically able to manage extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, and pulling

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and possess a practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • The candidates should hold a current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification and trained in Low Dose Ketamine Infusions
  • The candidates should have PCA/PCEA Certification, TNA/TPN Certification, Central Line Certification, and knowledge of chest tube care and maintenance
  • The candidates should have recent charge experience on an acute inpatient unit and previous experience preceptoring, orientating, and/or mentoring new staff and/or students
  • The candidates should have effective patient teaching experience (both written and verbal)
  • The candidates should demonstrate proficiency in clinical assessment skills and critical thinking
  • The candidates should have the ability to establish relationships with patients and families and engage them in their care

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assess the needs of patients, educate them, and optimize for surgery using the Nursing Process
  • The candidates should be able to provide peer education, participate in and support medical and nursing research activities, and demonstrate professional accountability in all aspects of dealing with the public
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate leadership skills and abilities, ensuring practices meet legislative requirements in accordance with the practice standards of the CRNA and the CNA code of ethics
  • The candidates should be able to utilize critical thinking skills and sound clinical judgment in their independent, interdependent, and dependent functions in the provision of health care and within their scope of practice
  • The candidates should be able to provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being
  • The candidates should be able to utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families
  • The candidates should be able to play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
