Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of certification in First Aid and CPR
Experience: Candidates should have previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be prepared to work shifts with varying start and stop times, including: 0930-1800, 1045-2000, 1130-2000, 0845-1800, 1115-2000, 1130-1945, 0900-1815, 1100-2015, 1045-2045, 0845-1845, 1030-1845, 0945-1900, 1030-2000, 0930-1845, 1130-1945, and 1100-1900
  • The candidate should be aware that Saturdays and Sundays are designated rest days, travel for mobile events, with transportation provided by Canadian Blood Services
  • The candidate should be able to attend mandatory training in Vancouver be physically capable of lifting weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs.)
  • The candidate should be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts, which will vary based on operational needs and the nature of events held at Canadian Blood Services mobile donor centers
  • The candidate should be willing to travel and be available for work on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and one Friday per month, based on a 52-week rotation

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have completed an accredited nursing program and hold a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province
  • The candidate should have two years of experience working as a nurse, technical skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs
  • The candidate should be proficient in a second language, which is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to communicate effectively with donors to conduct registration and confidential screening that determines eligibility and promotes a positive donor experience
  • The candidate should be able to provide donors with clear information, instructions, and advice on blood donation using strong interpersonal skills
  • The candidate should be able to provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as a team lead for collection events
  • The candidate should be able to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment to assist in the collection of whole blood and/or apheresis blood components
  • The candidate should be able to assist with setting up booths, tables, and other equipment at mobile community events to ensure donor clinics are properly arranged and functional
