Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should hold a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate
Experience: Candidates should have psychiatric nursing experience with individuals experiencing mental illness and addictions

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations involving the prevention and management of disturbed behavior
  • The candidate should be a self-directed team player who is highly organized and able to work collaboratively within an inter-professional team environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, medication administration certification or have completed an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration
  • The candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and collaborate effectively within a diverse inter-professional team
  • The candidate should have strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues, and risk assessments (preference will be given to those who do)
  • The candidate should have an understanding of developing and implementing forensic risk assessment plans, as well as a fundamental knowledge of forensic legal and health systems
  • The candidate should have experience working with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • The candidate should be computer literate, be bilingual (French and English) and proficient in a second language

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care while ensuring the security and safety of the client care environment, practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards, as well as CAMH Policies and Practice Model
  • The candidate should be able to collaborate with the primary nurse using a primary nursing model to perform ongoing assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate interprofessional client care plans for clients, including those detained under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB)
  • The candidate should be able to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and populations, contribute to program development and provide educational support and supervision to students
  • The candidate should be able to liaise with services in the Forensic Division and community agencies to coordinate client care, apply sound knowledge of clinical and risk management services for adults under ORB jurisdiction
  • The candidate should be able to develop, implement, and monitor risk management plans to ensure compliance with ORB dispositions
  • The candidate should be able to participate in the preparation of ORB reports and implement unit risk management processes
  • The candidate should be able to perform behavioral observations, mental status and physical assessments, and monitor patient responses to pharmaceutical care interventions
  • The candidate should be able to document and communicate ongoing patient information with team members and charge nurses, demonstrate knowledge of crisis intervention, addiction issues, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, and severe and persistent mental illness
  • The candidate should be able to assess clients and develop, implement, and evaluate interprofessional, client-centered care plan
