Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Experience: Candidates should have 5 to 8 years of experience working in government or political offices at the provincial and federal level

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have excellent communication skills, with a strong emphasis on writing and presentation capabilities
  • The candidates should demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the machinery of government and an understanding of government decision-making and influencers and experienced in stakeholder relations
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of diverse disciplines (business administration, economics, finance, engineering, political and social science, journalism) leading to strong analytical skills necessary for identifying internal and external corporate relations issues, attitudes, and opportunities, including those arising from public hearings; they should be able to plan and conduct issue and opportunity monitoring, research, and analysis; and develop corporate relations assessments, strategies, position papers, and statements
  • The candidates should have an extensive background in the English language to develop the necessary communication skills for dealing with Senior Management and preparing clear, concise descriptions and analyses of subjects and issues. This knowledge is normally acquired through
  • The candidates should have experience in government relations and at least one year of working experience within the government in a policy, issues management, or stakeholder relations capacity
  • The candidates should have experience in research and analysis on policies, decisions, corporate business plans, and other current issues to identify corporate relations issues, attitudes, and opportunities, and to develop corporate relations assessments, strategies, position papers, and statements
  • The candidates should have experience in the public communications field to understand the roles of various external agencies, pressure groups, and political parties that influence Hydro One activities
  • The candidates should have additional experience within the division to become familiar with applicable procedures and practices and with the maintenance and establishment of computerized databases
  • The candidates should have demonstrated experience in providing customer-first decision-making and customer service-related experience in a utility, with a period of up to six years considered necessary to gain this experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to participate in identifying issues, attitudes, and opportunities related to internal and external corporate relations, including those arising from elected officials, likely to impact Hydro One’s Corporate Relations and conduct issue and opportunity monitoring, research, and analyses recommend priority issues and opportunities to be analyzed and methods for conducting analyses. They should also monitor and report to management on issues that could have an indirect impact on or present an opportunity for the Corporation
  • The candidates should be able to develop corporate relations assessments, strategies, position papers, and statements for senior and line managers and corporate relations function staff for managing broad corporate relations and other issues and opportunities, including obtaining required approvals and consulting with necessary contacts
  • The candidates should be able to conduct assessments of the corporate relations implications of Board of Directors and senior management decisions and other proposed management decisions and actions on behalf of the Manager
  • The candidates should be able to obtain and provide issue, attitude, and hearings-related information to senior management, line managers, corporate relations function staff, operational planning, and strategic planning staff of other branches and the Executive Office
  • The candidates should be able to negotiate with external companies on matters such as positions, timing of actions, and other critical issues for both the external companies and Hydro One and plan, prepare, and distribute or oversee the preparation and distribution of clear, concise descriptions and analyses of subjects and issues for various internal and public documents and processes, including Issue Monitors, Corporate Briefing Files, Corporate Relations Forecasts, and hearings submissions
  • The candidates should be able to research and collect information manually and through computerized systems for issue assessments, corporate relations documents, hearings submissions, and interrogatories, and distribute such information in hard copy and/or electronically and maintain a computerized database of issue, attitude, corporate relations planning, and public hearings-related materials and data, providing reference services for all units of the Corporation
  • The candidates should be able to provide information on complex and sensitive issues, attitudes, trends, or public matters to senior and line managers and corporate relations function staff to enable them to respond to industry, media, government, and special interest groups and act as a consultant, providing guidance to line managers, branch and function staff on issue assessments, strategy development, hearings evidence, and other special projects, and support less senior members of the analysts team
  • The candidates should be able to maintain an in-depth understanding of plans, activities, and issues in key areas of the Corporation’s service territory and their potential impact on relationships with the public, while staying updated on issue identification and management techniques and hearings processes used outside the Corporation
  • The candidates should be able to write briefing notes on government activities, reports, and legislation; provide information on regulations and legislation affecting Lines of Business; research legislation and regulations, and assist in the development of official commentary and participation in legislative and regulatory reviews
  • The candidates should be able to meet regularly with MPPs and their staff at Queen’s Park and in their constituency offices to discuss local issues and Hydro One policies, activities, and decisions, which may involve travel and overnight stays across the province
