Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of University degree
Experience: Candidates should have Seven years’ experience of which at least three must involve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to lead and shape the nightly program of As It Happens, airing live on radio across Canada and several markets in the US, as well as on-demand podcast platforms and to lead podcast development, including conceptualizing, planning, and overseeing production processes
  • The candidates should be able to work in tandem with the Executive Producer to inspire and nurture the team, leading the assignment and development of content both on the air and across CBC’s digital platforms and to work closely with hosts to ensure their understanding of and engagement with the content
  • The candidates should be able to bring motivated, inspired leadership with innovative and creative ideas for continuing the evolution of As It Happens
  • The candidates should be able to build on the program’s strengths and reputation, including its excellence in landing top interviews and featuring unique and engaging stories from around the world
  • The candidates should be able to prioritize the mix of stories, supporting high-level chase and writing skills among the staff to ensure As It Happens remains must-listen audio on all platforms
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the program is relevant, reflective, and has tonal range, while upholding the principles of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate well-developed leadership and communication skills, mentoring and directing staff, and developing and implementing feedback plans for programming teams
  • The candidates should be able to showcase a high level of creative thinking, originating and developing innovative programs and production concepts and to vet scripts to ensure accuracy, fairness, and adherence to journalistic standards
  • The candidates should be able to create and drive program initiatives that help CBC meet its strategic goals and better understand and reflect the communities it serves and to create lineups, organizing and prioritizing stories for broadcast or publication
  • The candidates should be able to promote an inclusive and respectful work culture, appreciating the importance of representation in public broadcasting and able to attend and sometimes lead story meetings
