The Toronto Transit Commission’s Department of Materials Management is instrumental in the efficient procurement and management of resources critical to the TTC’s operations. The department ensures the availability of high-quality materials. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education (or Grade 12 equivalency), plus the successful completion of the apprenticeship training program
Experience: Candidates should have three years of experience to become familiar with the materials, equipment, and operations of the assigned location

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate an ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, and express themselves clearly in writing
  • The candidates must pass tests set by the Materials & Procurement Department, corresponding in content to the knowledge, theory, and/or practical requirements described
  • The candidates should be required to attend and successfully complete the TTC Training Department’s instruction for forklift truck operation and obtain a Class “DZ” License
  • The candidates must also attend and successfully complete WHMIS training, as well as training for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Subway/SRT Rule Book
  • The candidates should be proficient in the use of a personal computer and in Outlook
  • The candidates must possess a valid non-probationary class “G” Driver’s License
  • The candidates should have an Electrical background as considered an asset
  • The candidates must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform varied and moderately complex duties specific to the assigned location that relate to the sorting, storing, and issuing of parts and general storekeeping. This involves receiving, unpacking, checking, loading, unloading, storing, tracking, investigating stock discrepancies, and issuing all IFS controlled parts, supplies, chemicals, etc., required for the support of maintenance operations
  • The candidates should be able to carry out duties, in support of the assigned location, that will include ordering, expediting, and receiving of non-stock items and assisting the Inventory Planners and personnel from the assigned location in determining stock levels, stock items, etc.
  • The candidates should be responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer
