Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a valid Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker License for the Province of Ontario
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience including the apprenticeship training program, which consists of on-the-job/ work experience of 8,280 hours and 720 hours of in-school training

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess fine motor skills and manual dexterity
  • The candidates should be capable of light to moderate lifting, pushing, and carrying
  • The candidates should have ability to walk and stand for extended periods
  • The candidates should regularly climb ladders because it is aspect of the job and have Hand-eye coordination
  • The candidates should be able to work in an environment exposed to unpleasant or disagreeable conditions, such as extreme conditions of dust, dirt, noxious odors, noise, fumes, heat, cold, and temperature extremes

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess high-level skills in maintenance and repair procedures, including preventive maintenance, breakdown repair, trouble-shooting, construction, installations, and fabrication techniques typical in the trade
  • The candidates should possess 0roficiency in performing mathematical computations relevant to the trade and ability to read and interpret blueprints and system diagrams and familiarity with building codes
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to the job function
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to effectively work individually and as part of a team with diverse groups and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers
  • The candidates should exhibit the ability to follow through and carry out assignments and a creative approach to problem-solving
  • The candidates should have Knowledge of hazards involved with work and safety measures to be taken and aptitude for science and mathematics
  • The candidates should have the ability to read and write English and Familiarity with FMP (Facilities Management and Planning) Policies and Procedures

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain HVAC systems in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications, department guidelines, accepted procedures, and techniques of the HVAC trade, to minimize breakdowns and other interruptions in service
  • The candidates should be able to investigate and repair trade-related problems, including adjusting and repairing dampers, replacing bearings on rotating fans, and making modifications to equipment to suit local conditions, they should also be proficient in soldering and welding various materials such as mild steel, galvanized iron, copper, aluminum, and stainless steel
  • The candidates should be able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, schematics, manufacturer’s specs, and other reference materials to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to assist other trades, such as maintenance mechanics, plumbers, controls technicians, air conditioning mechanics, and electricians
  • The candidates should be able to estimate materials needed and record time and materials expended on work orders and keep the work area in a safe and clean condition
  • The candidates should be able to understand the proper use of ladders and scaffolding and able to perform other duties
