Job Description:

Position: Shelter worker
No of Vacancies: 1
Salary: $25.00 hourly for 40 hours per week
Employment Type: Permanent employment Full time
Location: Ajax, ON
Shifts: Day, Evening, Night
Work setting: Urban area, social service or charity agency, shelter for the homeless, and religious organization

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 2 years
Computer and technology knowledge: Electronic mail and MS Office

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work effectively in noisy environments and tolerate various odors
  • The candidates should be sensitive to socio-economic needs or conditions such as housing, nutrition, unemployment, and financial assistance
  • The candidates should have experience in providing services for the homeless and settlement services for new immigrants
  • The candidates should be physically capable of handling demanding tasks and be comfortable standing for extended periods
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate attention to detail in their work
  • The candidates should be able to perform repetitive tasks efficiently

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess efficient interpersonal skills and demonstrate excellent oral communication abilities
  • The candidates should exhibit good judgment in decision-making and show flexibility in their approach to tasks
  • The candidates should show initiative in problem-solving and task completion

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare reports or case histories and maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research
  • The candidates should be able to supervise support staff and ensure that safety standards and departmental policies are met
  • The candidates should be able to conduct social research and resolve conflict situations
